A Short History of Photography
6 Weeks | $350 | Online
Examine major photographic movements and the individuals who have shaped the history of the medium in A Short History of Photography. Beginning with discussion of pre-photographic experiments and continuing toward a look at contemporary photography, you will learn the relevance of this medium's rich and complex history. Lectures will concentrate on the progression of visual culture, the role of science and photography's dubious relationship with art. A print viewing assignment will bring you face-to-face with rare examples of original prints and masterworks of photography. The goal of this course is to engage history with a tangible understanding of the medium and its relationship to the act of making images.
What You Will Learn:

- The history of major historical figures in the development of photography and link their approach or style of work.
