Select the image you want and click on the proper desktop size. (NOTE: You need to know your monitor's screen resolution setting, such as 1024x768)
Right-click with your mouse on the wallpaper image and select "Set as wallpaper" from the menu that appears.

Control-click with your mouse on the wallpaper image and select "Save image to the desktop" from the menu that appears.
Move the image to your "Pictures" folder
Control-click anywhere on your desktop and select "Change Desktop Background"
In the "Desktop & Screen Savers" control panel that comes up, select "Pictures Folder" in the left menu, then select your desktop picture in the right window.
