This upcoming year marks a wonderful milestone for UCSD Extension—our 40th anniversary. While this is an ideal time to reflect on our early roots in San Diego's history, it is also time to look ahead to new learning opportunities. As always, the role of UCSD Extension is to help San Diego respond to the dynamic changes that are shaping our lives in the workplace and at home. By listening to our instructors, advisory boards, and member organizations, Extension translates early insights into professional education and training, research, and new business assistance. This leadership enables our region to adapt to new ideas, technologies, and workplace trends that are rapidly emerging here and around the world.

As you browse our website, you'll see current offerings in areas such as new product development, legal ethics, JAVA programming, and teaching online. To complement these timely educational programs, Extension supports organizations such as Global CONNECT and UCSD Athena, helping to link entrepreneurs to valuable tools, resources and networking connections. Extension is also committed to addressing the complex issues shaping our crossborder region through the outreach of the San Diego Dialogue. Finally, as a research university, we have a pivotal role to play in opening people's hearts and minds to important civic issues in our region. We do this through a growing nexus of thoughtful liberal arts programs such as Revelle Forum at the Neurosciences Institute, the Helen Edison Lecture Series, and through the daily, downloadable programming of UCSD-TV.

As we look forward to the decades ahead, our goal is to continue to be a reliable source of refreshing ideas, useful skills, and emerging knowledge.
