Special Studies in TEFL

Who should take this program?

This is a three-month program of select courses in TEFL and other academic areas to enhance teacher preparation. Students must choose and enroll in a total of 12 UC San Diego Extension units, with the advice and approval of the TEFL Coordinator. Prospective students must have one of the following scores to participate in this program: 540 TOEFL paper-based, 76 TOEFL internet-based, 740 TOEIC, 6.0 IELTS, "Pass" on the Cambridge FCE or Advanced Exams, or 660 TEPS.

Other Requirements:

  • Proof of English proficiency
  • Copy of transcripts in English for the two most recent years of academic studies
  • A one-page statement explaining why you would like to take any TEFL Certificate program

Application fee, application, financial verification, and all supporting documents must be submitted prior to the application deadline.

What this program includes:

The curriculum consists of the following core courses:

  • Advanced Analysis of English Sentence Structure II (3 units)
  • Cross-Cultural Issues for Language Teachers (3 units)

Participants must choose an additional 6 units from among the many courses and workshops offered each quarter in the TEFL Certificate programs.
