Conditions for Admission
Total fluency in both English and Spanish, including the ability to speak, read, and write at a second year university level, is required. Fluency is determined by a written and oral entrance exam in both English and Spanish. Four courses may be taken prior to the entrance exam: Introduction to Translation and Interpretation, Theory and Practice of Translation, English to Spanish Translation I, and Spanish to English Translation I. Admission to the remaining coursework requires successful completion of the entrance exam.
Certificate Guidelines
Participants may tailor the curriculum to suit their professional needs. Areas of specialization in translation or interpretation, or professional industry (medical, legal, business, community, and education) are available. If all elective course choices are medical, legal, translation, or interpretation-focused, an area of specialization will be included on the certificate.
The Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpretation (Spanish/English) is issued upon completion of the entrance exam and the total number of required credit units (30 quarter units). The approximate cost of the program is $4,375 (includes course fees, entrance exam fee, and certificate enrollment fee) and is paid incrementally as students enroll in courses rather than up front. Early enrollment discounts reduce price to $4,125. Cost does not include textbooks, materials and parking. Course fees are subject to change.
