Intensive Business Fundamentals

Who should take this course?

This program is designed for professionals and students seeking to upgrade their English skills for the work place. Curriculum includes fundamentals of the English language classes, plus specialized courses in business communication, business writing, vocabulary, and grammar. Intermediate levels only.

Other Requirements to be submitted 30 days before the published program start-date:

  • TB Assessment Form (sent at the time UC San Diego Extension International Programs sends acceptance materials)

  • Medical Insurance Verification form (if student chooses to use their own medical insurance and not UC San Diego Medical Insurance) For the minimum coverage requirements click here

  • January 7 - March 22
  • April 1 - June 14
  • June 24 - September 6
  • September 23 - December 6

Program Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday

  • Classes are held between 8:30 - 4:30 PM

  • 11 weeks - 25 hours per week (First week is testing, orientation & registration)

  • Schedule varies depending on level and classes chosen

Course listings:

Required Courses:

  • Core classes for fluency and comprehension

  • Listening Skills Class

  • Business writing

  • Six-hour Business skills class providing:

    • developing business communication skills

    • American business vocabulary

    • class presentations

    • case studies

In addition to required courses, students choose nine hours per week from the following list:

  • Intermediate Academic Listening

  • Vocabulary Development

  • Conversation

  • Reading Skills

  • Intermediate Fluency and Presentation Skills

Cost (In U.S. Dollars):

Application Fee: $150 (non-refundable)
Tuition: $3,500
Books/Materials: Approximately $250

(Payment for all books and instructional materials CANNOT be made in advance and are to be purchased upon arrival at UC San Diego.)
