Welcome & Introduction

Testing to determine your English language level

After registration and welcome, we give all new ESL, TEFL, and UPS students a series of tests to confirm their English level and language needs.

It is important that each student is placed at his or her correct level, and be provided information and advice on choosing the most appropriate elective classes.

Choosing Classes

All of the ten-week ESL programs, and some of the four-week ESL programs, include electives.

Orientation

During week orientation students will meet the staff and teachers, and will be provided with important information necessary in order to make sure the student has a good experience in the U.S.

Housing

The housing agencies will be at the orientation to help you with payment and questions.

Campus Tour

The UC San Diego campus is very big--this tour takes about an hour. The purpose of this tour is both to orient you, and to show you campus locations you'll need such as the main athletic center, the parking office, the health center, the library, and the bookstore.

Service Fair

During the service fair students receive information about bike and car rental companies, banks, cell phones, the campus athletic center, and other service providers to the orientation.

Visa Advising

During orientation week, students are given essential information about the immigration rules in the United States.

International Student Services

Information is also provided about our programs and services--such as housing and medical insurance. The International Student Services Staff is available every afternoon Monday through Friday, from 1-4p.m., to answer students' questions and to make sure that the students' San Diego experience is enjoyable and productive.
