By: Henry DeVries

Release Date:  04/22/09

The 2009 Grammy Awards brought national attention to Daniel T. Atkinson, the UC San Diego Extension arts, humanities and languages director, for his co-production of the album "Standards" by former Weather Report drummer Peter Erskine, veteran pianist Alan Pasqua and bassist Dave Carpenter, who died last summer.

"Standards" was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group. Atkinson co-produced "Standards" with Erskine and Pasqua. It was recorded in January 2007 at the Neurosciences Institute Auditorium in La Jolla. Erskine and Pasqua have performed at that venue several times under the auspices of the Athenaeum Jazz at the Neurosciences Institute concert series, which is booked by Atkinson, who also serves as the jazz programming director for the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in La Jolla.
