Free Flu Talks Offered to Organizations

Release Date:  11/02/09

As a public service UC San Diego Extension is offering a no-cost 90-minute presentation on H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu) safety to San Diego County businesses, civic groups, clubs, associations, youth groups, Chambers of Commerce and other community organizations.

According to the federal Center for Disease Control, influenza activity has continued to increase in the United States and is now widespread in 46 states. Nationwide, visits to doctors for influenza-like-illness are increasing steeply and are now higher than what is seen at the peak of many regular flu seasons. In addition, flu-related hospitalizations and deaths continue to go up nation-wide and are above what is expected for this time of year.

The UC San Diego Extension instructor leading the flu prevention presentations is Shannon Oriola, RN, the department lead for infection prevention at Sharp HealthCare. Her information is based on the latest materials from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA).

To schedule a no-cost presentation call Shannon Oriola at 619-884-0311 or email her at Shannon.oriola@sharp.com.
