CAT Tools & Technology in Translation
Intended for experienced translators as well as beginners, this course presents a comparative overview of various Computer Assisted Translation tools available in the translation industry. Translation memory, terminology management, desktop publishing systems, speech recognition programs and web-based linguistic resources are among the topics covered. A demonstration of tools such as SDL Trados, SDLX and Wordfast will help the students chose the CAT tool that best fits their professional needs to succeed and compete in this technologically-oriented business. This course is designed for participants familiar with MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
SDL Trados Suite 2007 for Beginners
Discover SDL Trados and SDLX translation memory software. Learn basic functions of Trados Workbench, MultiTerm, WinAlign and TagEditor as well as SDLX Edit, MultiTerm and Align. Translator/Trados/client relationship and Trados rates will be discussed. Students who have a laptop computer should bring it with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint already installed. A 30-day free trial version of SDL Trados Suite 2007 is sufficient and can be downloaded prior to the first class meeting. Link will be emailed to enrolled students one week prior to course.

This hands-on workshop is intended for translators who already know the basics of Trados and SDLX and want to use their more detailed functionalities. Learn how to set up, use and manage a translation memory more efficiently (attributes, penalties, project and filter settings, TM options, editing translation units, import and export functions). Use Trados Term Recognition and MultiTerm terminology management and learn solutions to common software problems. Students who have a laptop computer should bring it with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint already installed.
