Quarterly Updates
Effective Spring Quarter 2012:
* Students completing the Entrance Exam on-campus may use paper dictionaries only. Laptops and electronic dictionaries are not permitted. Dictionaries may not be shared among exam-takers.
* Federal- and state-certified court interpreters may now obtain Court Interpreter Minimum Continuing Education Credit (CIMCE) upon completing Legal Translation and Business Translation. Click here to view the complete list of UC San Diego Extension courses offering CIMCE credit.
Effective Winter Quarter 2012:
* Theory and Practice of Translation has a new course prerequisite requirement. Students must pass the Entrance Exam and complete complete Introduction to Translation before enrolling in the class.
* The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) recognizes the Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpretation at UC San Diego Extension as a registered training program. Successful completion of the program fulfills the NBCMI certification prerequisite for Medical Interpreter Education.
* Instructor Office Hours are now available on a drop in basis most Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. in room 133 at the UCSD Extension Complex.
Effective Fall Quarter 2011:
* The certificate enrollment fee will increase to $60 for both the Specialized Certificate in Translation and the Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpretation.
Effective Spring Quarter 2011:
* Students may now use a dictionary while taking the Entrance Exam.
Effective Winter Quarter 2011:
* Theory and Practice of Translation now has a required prerequisite. Students must complete Introduction to Translation or Introduction to Translation & Interpretation (no longer active) before enrolling in the class.
* Introduction to Translation & Interpretation is no longer offered. It has been replaced by two five-week courses, each offering 15 hours of instruction and 1.5 units of credits. The courses are Introduction to Translation and Introduction to Interpretation.
Introduction to Translation is required for the Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpretation and the Specialized Certificate in Translation.
Introduction to Interpretation is required for the Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpretation only.
