Internship Programs
As alumni and advanced students of the Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpretation (Spanish/English) at UC San Diego Extension, you have the requisite knowledge and skills to become successful translators and interpreters. Employers know that you have the bilingual proficiency, cultural understanding, theoretical knowledge and skill set to do the job well. What employers still want to know is this; do you have real-world experience? Our internship programs provide you with the resume building, hands-on experience you need to increase your professional marketability and get your foot through the door.
Medical Internship Program
To participate, student must complete the eight courses required for the Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpretation and two of the medical-focused elective courses listed below with a grade B or higher. A resume and an instructor letter of recommendation is also required. Note: The internship may be applied to your certificate requirements as an elective course.
Legal Internship Program
To participate, student must complete the eight courses required for the Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpretation and two of the legal-focused elective courses listed below with a grade B or higher. A resume and an instructor letter of recommendation is also required. Note: The internship may be applied to your certificate requirements as an elective course.
Upon completion of the medical or legal internship program, students receive four units of credit and a minimum of 40 hours of practical work experience. Note: The internship should be viewed as a pre-employment experience only and not as a probationary period for future employment.
