Global Service Program

The UC San Diego Extension Center for Global Volunteer Service™ is dedicated to providing both on-line and in-person courses for prospective and current international volunteers who want to work in developing parts of the world. We strive to help communities in need by educating volunteers how to best utilize their skills and by increasing their understanding of critical health, safety, economic, and overall cultural issues while participating in global service.

The CGVS Global Service Program provides a foundation for successful involvement in volunteering in global service projects. Participants in our program will learn from professionals who have had first-hand international experience. Valuable lessons learned include how to identify what volunteer experience is best for you, preparing for global volunteer service, participating in a global volunteer project, and planning for possible next step upon your return - all with an overarching understanding of personal wellness, safety, security, and sensitivity to the cultures you serve. Through this program students will learn to think critically about how global service can be integral in all stages of their lives; both personally and professionally.

Global Service Program participants must complete three online courses and a field service trip through the Building Bridges Series.

Students who finish all of the requirements for the CGVS Global Service Program will receive written documentation from the UC San Diego Extension Center for Global Volunteer Service™ stating that they successfully completed the program.
