California Clear Credential (SB 2042)

SB 2042 Fifth Year Induction Program

The State of California mandates that all teachers must hold a valid California Teaching Credential, which authorizes them to provide classroom instruction. Credentials are offered on a preliminary basis. Each new teacher must complete the requirements to clear a teaching credential within a specified five year time period in order to remain a K-12 teacher within the California Public Education System. A university sponsored SB 2042 Fifth Year Induction Program is one method for SB 2042 credential holders to clear their teaching credentials.

This is the place

to get your credential

Our SB 2042 Induction program is designed for public, charter and private school teachers who are employed in districts that do not have an Induction program. Applicants must hold a valid preliminary SB 2042 document. This type of credential can be identified by the renewal codes R14S or R14I. Applicants who have the renewal code R14I must also provide the CL-855 form Verification of Unavailability of a Commission-Approved Induction Program signed by their employing agency.

Formal Recommendations to CCTC

Upon completion of the SB 2042 Fifth Year Induction program, a UCSD Extension credentials analyst will submit a formal recommendation to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). For more information, please see our program brochure.

Only participants who have completed the entire SB 2042 Fifth Year Induction Program through UCSD Extension are eligible for formal recommendation.

Elective Courses

If, upon completion of the Fifth Year Program, a participant has not met the 45 quarter units of post-baccalaureate coursework minimum requirement he/she will work with an advisor to develop a course plan that will meet the minimum unit requirement.

Important Information for Applicants

The Education Department at UC San Diego Extension practices a rolling admissions policy for the Fifth Year Induction Program. However, due to increased demand, admissions applications will be reviewed on a space-available basis each quarter. Please submit all application materials as early as possible for priority enrollment in the quarter of your choice.
