Designated Subjects Credential

UC San Diego Extension offers courses to fulfill the requirements for the San Diego County Office of Education Career Technical & Adult Education Designated Subjects Teaching Credential. The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) to recommend individuals for Designated Subjects teaching credentials.

Career Technical Education

{Formerly known as Vocational Education}

Career Technical Education credentials, like the Vocational Education credentials, can be used to teach in any vocational, trade, or technical class at any grade level.  As of November 2007, CCTC is no longer issuing Vocational Credentials.

Career Technical Education credential holders can meet the coursework requirements in two courses.  The course titles are Level I and Level II, they are designed to meet both the Career Technical Education competencies.  The entire series of courses must be taken to meet the Level I and Level II requirement.

Important CTE Update:

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has adopted new clear credential program standards. All candidates must now apply with San Diego County Office of Education and complete the coursework under the new program standards.

All candidates should complete the requirements listed on their individual Planned Course of Study that is provided at the time of admission to the program.

Candidates admitted prior to Summer 2010 will have different requirements listed than candidates accepted in Fall 2010 or later.
