Feature Writing Certificate
The journalism industry has evolved and continues to change due to the influence of technology. Feature writers who can write effective feature stories and navigate the online environment have the most opportunities to find success and get published. It is essential today for freelance writers to be well versed in the writing fundamentals, prepared to write for emerging technologies and equipped to handle the business side of this competitive industry. The certificate gives students a solid grounding in the craft, with instruction in the fundamentals: generating and developing story ideas, cultivating sources, researching, interviewing techniques, and the writing itself. Students also will learn how to write for the online environment and will explore and utilize online tools to write and repackage stories for the web. In addition, students learn the business of feature writing, from marketing stories as a freelancer to key legal issues so they can gain the market knowledge to get published.
