The leaders and staff of nonprofit organizations must ensure that accounting records and financial statements are accurate and comply with regulatory requirements. This class covers basic nonprofit accounting rules, procedures and best practices. Offering tips for improving financial efficiency and operational effectiveness, the curriculum also provides the “big picture” perspective that is so important to potential donors.  Learn strategies to enable your organization to become stronger, more effective, and more sustainable.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain insight on the different types of non profits based on their funding models and how that impacts financial systems and reporting
  • Understand a basic set of non profit financial statements and know the specialized accounting rules that apply
  • Be able to analyze the financial health of an organization using the financials
  • Learn to navigate form 990 and other compliance requirements
  • Understand the concept of internal financial controls and management’s responsibility in that area

Full participation in Financial Management for Nonprofit Organizations is applicable for 20 points in Category 1.B – Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.
 

Note: Although you can take any course in any order we recommend you start from the required course Introduction to Fundraising and Development. If you are not interested in pursuing the Professional Certificate in Fundraising and Development you can enroll in any single class.
