Vision and Revision

Someone once said that writing is 20 percent inspiration and 80 percent perspiration, which can be translated to mean a little bit of new writing and a whole lot of rewriting. But hard work as rewriting can sometimes be, its rewards are well worth the effort. Not only is rewriting necessary to make good writing better, it may be only through the re-visioning of a piece that we discover its true meaning. This class will take participants through the creation of a first draft of a story, scenes or a chapter for a novel, or a work of creative nonfiction, followed by the deepening and sharpening process of revision. Sessions will include in-class exercises on writing and rewriting, lively discussions and group participation, and the careful read and critique of student’s work.

Note: The class is designed for writers with some knowledge of fictive techniques, but beginning writers are also welcome.
