Writing Haiku Poetry
Haiku is a form of poetry first developed by the great master Basho in the 17th century. Its three-line structure makes it one of the most economical, disciplined, and vivid forms of poetic expression. A haiku poem attempts to capture, as if in a brushstroke, a powerful emotional moment in its distilled essence. It seeks to express oneness with nature's ephemeral and eternal beauty and to discover a deep understanding of the beauty within small moments. We will read the great haiku poets, compose and analyze haikus, and learn techniques that enable one to capture and express inspiration in any written form.
Note: Second class meeting will be held at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park.
