Flash Fiction: The Art of Abbreviation

This form of fiction is called by many names: sudden, short-short, instant, fast, micro, and postcard, to name just a few. It can have as few as 50 words and as many as 1500. But there is more to the form than word count and in this workshop we will explore what it requires besides brevity. In our first meeting we will learn the genre through discussion, readings, and hands-on exercises. We will explore what works and why, and get some good starts on our own pieces and ideas for even more. In our second session, participants will bring a completed manuscript to class for read and critique.

Note: No prerequisite. Open to writers of all levels.
