Journalism is literature in a hurry

Writing and Selling the Nonfiction Book

"I could write a book," people often say. And they probably could--if they knew what it takes to shepherd an idea from incubation to publication. This course seeks to help such writers learn how to research and write a non-fiction book proposal, how to avoid the most common mistakes, and how to understand what agents and editors are looking for. In-class exercises, actual examples, and out-of-class assignments will demystify the process. Later sessions will include instructor critiques of work produced during the course.

Note: No previous writing experience is necessary, only an idea that's worth telling and the desire to tell it in a compelling way.
