In this TEFL course, you will receive an overview of various theoretical approaches as they apply to:
-
reading in the ESL and EFL classroom
-
relevant areas of research in foreign language reading
-
connection of theory and research to the teaching and learning of reading
You will be provided with a thorough understanding of the reading process and the ways in which to build and assess reading skills, particularly academic and professional material.
There will be an emphasis in how to best teach vocabulary and idioms through reading in an ESL and EFL context.
Note: A strong command of English is a prerequisite for this course. (iBT TOEFL:80, TOEIC:760)
This is a required course for the Professional Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate program.

Palumbo, Christine
Christine Palumbo (Chrissy) earned her PhD from the University of Arizona Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT) interdisciplinary program, and master’s degrees in Applied Linguistics from the University of Maryland and the University of Arizona minoring in Teacher Training in Education (TTE) from the College of Education. Christine has developed pre and in-service teacher development programs in the United States, Asia, Africa, Central, and South America and has been a second language and foreign language consultant, teacher educator, and international trainer for the US Department of State and the US English Language Fellow Program in Panama where she continues to be an international consultant.
