Alexandra Hangsterfer


Alexandra Hangsterfer has been managing the Scripps Institution of Oceanography's (SIO) Geological Collection for over ten years. Prior to that, Alexandra was a graduate student at SIO, where she received her Master's degree in Oceanography. As a part of her role as collections manager, she does numerous lab tours for students and the public, works regularly with the Birch Aquarium to support outreach events. engages in a project that enables her to help take mainly undergraduate students out to sea to collect geological samples from the seafloor, and she works closely with a number of educators to supply samples and/or educational material for classroom learning. As a graduate student, she also acted as a teaching assistant at UCSD. She is originally from the east coast and went to college in Rhode Island. While working on her undergraduate degree, Alexandra also conducted research at both the Marine Biological Laboratory and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Woods Hole, MA.
