Cathy Hasson, Ed.D.

Cathy has been working in the field of institutional research, planning and assessment in higher education for nearly 20 years. In this capacity she has served as dean and director at community colleges in California, and as a research and planning consultant  and technical expert in colleges and on statewide and system projects.

Cathy also spent about 17 years teaching in community colleges and universities in and around Southern California, and worked for a several years as a researcher conducting large scale market research studies. She earned her doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University in 2000, where she focused her dissertation work on sustainable ways in which to incorporate the process and mechanisms used for 360 multiple stakeholder feedback research to build capacity, lead change and develop and advance organizations. Cathy has developed and implemented numerous Balanced Scorecard systems for measuring, tracking and benchmarking institutional effectiveness. She currently serves as the Director of Institutional Research and Planning for the San Diego Community College District, the second largest community college system in the state, and one of the more complex and diverse multi-college districts. Cathy also regularly consults for community colleges in the areas of strategic and master planning, enrollment management, and building information capacity. Cathy serves as a statewide and regional expert and trainer for research and planning projects in the areas of CTE (career technical education), and strategic enrollment management. She is currently involved in the development of strategic enrollment management initiative and is developing resources and tools for colleges that will be made available through the California Community College Chancellor's Office.
