Laura Ruival is a software engineer with 15 years of software development experience. She took her first HTML class at UCSD as an undergraduate in 1996 and has been hooked ever since. Since graduating she has continued to learn everything she can about coding while pursuing a career as a web developer, software developer and software engineer. She took numerous classes at Grossmont College and UCSD Extension and continues learning to this day. She is currently enrolled in the iOS Swift Certification Program at UCSD Extension.
After taking a break from the corporate world to have children, she decided that she was ready give back to the schools and organizations that helped her achieve her goals and career aspirations. She made it her mission to expose more young people to coding. Toward that end she has been teaching coding and robotics for a non-profit organization that brings STEAM subjects to elementary and middle schools in the Alpine Union School District since 2018. She teaches at the same school she attended for middle school.
Laura is also a computer science instructor for UCSD Extension’s Program Your Future program which brings computer science courses to local high school students. She also teaches Scratch for Sally Ride Science Junior Achievement. Laura is eager to pass on her knowledge and experience in the software industry and make coding accessible to every student.
In her spare time she enjoys horseback riding, yoga, hiking, camping and spending time with her husband and two children.
