Art through the Ages: Ancient Greece and Rome

Explore the art and architecture of ancient Greece and Rome, from the legendary King Minos' palace on the island of Crete to the colossal portrait of Emperor Constantine among Rome's ancient ruins.

In this four-week course, students will be introduced to cultural hallmarks of the ancient world including wall paintings from ancient Pompeii, the famed Nike of Samothrace and Venus de Milo, the Parthenon, and feats of Roman engineering, such as the Colosseum.

Style, function, symbolism, context, materials & techniques, and patronage will be discussed in this second installment of the nine-course Art History series.

Note: Fulfills 1 unit towards the Art History requirement for the Art and the Creative Process Certificate.
