This course is designed as a capacity building tool for local, state and national audiences to provide specialized online training in the practice and protocols of contact tracing for the purposes of helping to address the current COVID-19 pandemic.  Local communities are in immediate need for a cadre of professionally trained contact tracers to quickly interview known contacts of cases, assess their health status, provide them with public health information, and link them with available medical, social and public health resources.  This course provides the fundamentals of contact tracing and also provides directions of how students will carry out contact tracing protocols with local county departments of public health.

This course covers the basic principles of epidemiology, contact tracing, contact tracing protocols as developed by public health officials, reporting systems, and privacy and health communication strategies.  The content is targeted towards healthcare, public health, community health workers, medical students, social workers, and other qualified volunteers.  Examine best practices and essential components of contact tracing as a key strategy for preventing further spread of COVID-19.
