Rapid development in technology has increase the usage of complex systems in every sphere of our lives. Smart systems including sophisticated hardware and software control our cars, airplanes, factories, traffic lights, and cooking recipes. As a result, the Industry is lacking safety experts due to the growth of technological applications, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven.

Functional Safety Fundamentals for Automotive professional certificate will provide up-to-date content in the fields of system engineering, system safety and functional safety tailored for the applications in the automotive industry. Participants in this program will learn the practical insights of the required standards for automotive functional safety engineering (ISO 26262) and the development processes as key factors towards the mitigation of systematic faults (ASPICE).

Program Highlights

Functional Safety Fundamentals for Automotive program is comprised of five (5) required courses equivalent to 15 total units. The courses consist of both theoretical and practical examples that complement each other while enhancing students’ knowledge in Functional Safety.

Our professional certificate will introduce Functional safety terminology, concepts, and safety analysis methods. This program will also cover fault tolerance concepts, including the design considerations to achieve functional safety requirements with an emphasis on automotive systems. The certificate will detail the required automotive processes and the application of relevant functional safety standards.

Completion of this certificate will provide the skills to both professionals and engineering graduates who would like to enter the field of Functional Safety or are looking to fill any gaps.


Students should have basic engineering knowledge in either one of the following disciplines: electrical engineering, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering.

  • In-depth understanding of functional safety standard for automotive (ISO 26262), its purpose, key methodology and safety measures
  • Hands-on experience with safety analysis methods used in the automotive industry
  • Taught by industry professionals with relevant experience in Automotive Engineering and Functional Safety.
