This hands-on course gives high school students an in-depth look at iOS programming using the Swift language, guiding them as they use tools such as Xcode and Interface Builder to write applications for the iPhone and iPad. Students will become familiar with the Swift programming language and concepts such as view controllers, alerts, tables and persistent storage, as well as device features such as location, touch, sound and accelerometer. After completing the course, students will have the skills required to take Futures: iOS Programming 2.

Wallace Wang has written dozens of programming books related to iOS/macOS programming using the Swift programming language, including "Beginning iPhone Development with Swift 5," "Pro iPhone Development with Swift 5," "macOS Programming for Absolute Beginners" and "Beginning ARKit for iPhone and iPad" (all published by APress). In addition, he has taught numerous Swift programming courses to high school students through UC San Diego Extension over the past three years.

Ruival, Laura
Laura Ruival is a software engineer with 15 years of software development experience. Since graduating from UC San Diego, she has continued to learn everything she can about coding while pursuing a career as a software engineer. In 2018 Laura began teaching coding and robotics for Alpine Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that brings STEAM subjects to elementary schools in the Alpine Union School District. She is also an instructor for UC San Diego Extension's Program Your Future program, which brings computer science courses to high school students, and she teaches coding workshops for Sally Ride Science Junior Academy. Laura is eager to pass on her knowledge and experience in the software industry and make coding accessible to every child.
