Editorial illustration is the bread and butter of a full-time freelance illustrator. No matter what the current trends are in illustration, art directors will always be in the market for conceptual thinkers, as well as accurate and inventive portraiture.
That being said, many other avenues of Freelance Illustration exist and the list of different kinds of illustration jobs continues to grow and change. These are the jobs that often give you more completion time because they expect a thorough and detailed final. These jobs are often high profile, meaning the final product will be seen by more people, and will therefore lead to more work. Most importantly though, these jobs are often the most freeing, and usually cater exclusively to your particular style and vision.
