Lactation Education Refresher Course Description

The 20 hour Lactation Education Refresher course is intended for lactation professionals or healthcare providers who have completed a 45 hour Lactation Education Counselor course and are seeking required lactation refresher education hours to fulfill continuing education requirements or for International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) needing CERPs.  IBCLCs are able to obtain 5 E-CERPs and 15 L-CERPs by successfully completing the course.

The Lactation Education Refresher course covers a myriad of topics from prenatal to weaning and includes several expert guest speakers. Healthcare providers and lactation professionals, including International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), Certified Lactation Consultants (CLCs), and Certified Lactation Educators, will all benefit from this evidence based curriculum using best practices.

Students must be accepted into the Lactation Education Refresher (LER) course. The simple application process includes uploading a current credential (IBCLC, CLC, etc.) or an award of completion of the prerequisite, a 45-hour Lactation Education Counselor (LEC) course.  If the LEC or LER course was completed prior to fall 2021, we recommend taking the LER course five years after the date of completion.  If the LEC or LER course was completed after the fall 2021 quarter, we recommend enrolling in the LER course three years after the date of completion.

Once a student’s application is verified, they will receive an email with instructions on how to enroll. The cost of the online asynchronous course is $285.

Canvas, our online learning platform, is not compatible with smart phones or tablet devices. We recommend students plan to use a laptop or desktop for our courses.
