This class focuses on the development of effective negotiation and debate skills in both casual and formal environments. Students will learn the skills necessary to give their opinions and support them with facts and research. They will be expected to listen to their classmates as they present their arguments and provide both written and oral feedback on the debates they hear.

Students who plan to go to graduate school in the U.S. or who desire to communicate effectively and succinctly in both personal and business environments would benefit from this class. It is for serious students who want to focus on improving their ability to listen, think critically, negotiate, and respond quickly to arguments and ideas.

By the end of the class, students will be able to:

  • analyze debates and identify the stronger argument,
  • give an opinion or alternative to an argument and provide support for that opinion that would be considered valid and worthy of consideration, and
  • argue and debate in a respectful manner while being persuasive and professional.
