This Institute (course) will provide elementary teachers with the theoretical knowledge, technical tools, and instructional strategies to teach the CCSS foundational reading skills. This course will include the study of a comprehensive literacy framework aligned with CA’s ELA/ELD Framework and review research on effective practices for beginning reading instruction and intervention. Teachers learn about the sequence of learning to read, the use of assessments to guide and differentiate reading instruction and intervention, and practice instructional routines that support reading development. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in lesson study within a professional learning community.
