Join us to commemorate Women’s History Month as we convene to highlight the successes and challenges of women in our community. A panel of distinguished speakers will share their inspiring vision and experiences, while bringing awareness to the issues faced by women working in nontraditional fields and industries. The event will be followed by professional networking opportunities and interacting with nonprofit groups. Appetizers will be served.
Parking and registration are free but there is a suggested donation of $10.00. All proceeds from the event will go to charity.

Dr. Mary Walshok, Associate Vice Chancellor of Public Programs and Dean of UC San Diego Extension
Dr. Mary Walshok is an author, educator, researcher, thought leader and subject matter expert on aligning workforce development with regional economic growth. As an industrial social scientist studying the dynamics of regional economic development and transformation, Walshok has studied various communities across America. She has evaluated 13 WIRED regions funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, studied three innovative regions for a National Science Foundation-funded project, and assessed one region's efforts to grow an industry for a Lilly Foundation-funded endeavor.
Shaney jo Darden, Founder/Global Chief Creative Officer at The Keep a Breast Foundation
After a friend was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, designer and artist Shaney jo Darden founded the global non-profit organization The Keep A Breast Foundation (KAB) to raise awareness of breast cancer and to encourage prevention and early detection among young people. Now, as KAB celebrates its 19th anniversary, Shaney jo is a leading voice and philanthropy expert in the cultural conversation about breast cancer. Over the years she has received many awards for her innovative fusion of advocacy, art, lifestyle-brand partnerships and street culture, and in the process has generated substantial funds for Keep A Breast via donations, partnerships, and licensing.
Gwen Conley, Director of Quality at Cutwater Spirits (Moderator)
Gwen Conley is the director of quality at Cutwater Spirits here in San Diego and was formerly the director of brewery production and quality assurance at Port Brewing / The Lost Abbey in San Marcos, CA. Her path to the craft beer and spirits world included being a biology teacher, environmental chemist, microbiologist and flavor panel leader at Ball Corporation in Broomfield, CO. She has a bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Colorado Boulder.
Alicia McLain, Organizational Transformation & Leadership Coach
Alicia is an Organizational Transformation & Leadership Coach with over 20 years of experience within the software development and IT domains. Sylvia is an award-winning author and journalist, professional editor and professor, who has six published books including The Book of Latina Women: 150 Vidas of Passion, Strength and Success, and more than 500 articles to her credit, as well as a dozen published editing clients. Her joy is writing inspirational stories about strong visionary women who are powerful examples of living with passion and purpose.The daughter of Mexican American parents who taught her to value her heritage, Sylvia’s voice also celebrates the Latina spirit with stories of the heart that embrace tradition, yet shatter stereotypes.

Ms. Moraga is President & CEO of intelliSolutions, inc., a woman-owned small business established in 2006 in the military and defense industry. Jamie is a Past President and Board member of the San Diego Military Advisory Council (SDMAC), a Board member of the San Diego Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), a member of the NDIA Board of Directors in Washington, DC, and a SDMAC Board liaison to the Downtown San Diego Partnership Board of Directors. Suzy Shamsky has over 30 years of experience in the field of occupational and environmental health and safety. She has worked in both government and private industry as a trainer and project manager in the areas of manufacturing, construction, health care, law enforcement, laboratories, disaster services, and hazardous waste management. Ms. Shamsky has a Master of Public Health and is a certified industrial hygienist (CIH) and certified safety professional (CSP).
