College grads get second chance at their dream job in healthcare

In 2018, health care surpassed retail and manufacturing to become the top employer in the US. But for some looking to gain a foothold in this booming industry, educational barriers can get in the way.

UC San Diego Extension has launched a Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health program to help these aspiring nurses, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists, physician’s assistants, and others prepare for advanced professional or medical schooling.

The roughly two-year program is self-paced and unique to the specific needs of each student. Administrators take into consideration the student’s educational background (only a bachelor’s degree is required), their intended profession, and any necessary standardized tests.

Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health participants are given priority to prerequisite coursework, which is taken alongside UC San Diego undergrads. Each student’s course plan is customized to fit their career goals. Workshops, coaches, and advisors are also available to help prep for the application process.
