Peter Callstrom, president and CEO of San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP), will discuss job training programs on the UC San Diego Extension Interactive Radio program "Career Talk" live on January 10, 2013, 10:30am – 11:00am. Callstrom, the new CEO of the San Diego Workforce Partnership, brings 18 years of workforce development experience to the organization. As executive director of Partnerships With Industry (PWI) for 15 years, he led PWI through substantial growth, fiscal stability, and outstanding accreditation outcomes. PWI provides vocational and community support services for adults with disabilities. Prior to Partnerships With Industry, Callstrom founded and lead a workforce program for three years for the Vista Hill Foundation.
“If you are getting an unemployment check you could be just sitting around,” says Callstrom. “But people want to work, and those who show up to the career centers are very inspiring to me because they are looking for opportunities and building their skills.”
The San Diego Workforce Partnership funds job training programs that enable eligible adults to develop the skills and knowledge needed for emerging career opportunities within such fields as green jobs, healthcare, and clean technology.
Currently there are a dozen career centers in San Diego County, from Bonita to Vista to El Cajon. For a full listing visit www.workforce.org/job-centers.
