EPSE/LAMP graduation 2014: Executive programs enhanced their careers

Signs of Success

glass-trophy.jpgThe 2014 graduating classes of EPSE (Executive Perspective for Scientists and Engineers) and LAMP (Leadership and Management Program) were honored May 21 in ceremonies at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine.

Now in its 30th year, EPSE provides a wide range of knowledge, concepts and perspectives about the worlds of science and technology-based business. LAMP, in its 29th year, offers advanced training in leadership and management roles.

EPSE and LAMP are programs within UC San Diego Extension. Gary De Spain serves as executive director of both programs.

EPSE is offered once per year, beginning in September 2014 and ending in May 2015. Class sessions will meet Mondays, 1 pm - 7:30 pm. Application to EPSE (deadline July 25)

LAMP is offered once per year, beginning in January 2015 and ending in May. Class sessions will meet on Tuesdays, 1 pm - 7 pm, Jan. 6 - May 19, 2015. Application to LAMP (deadline, Nov. 28)

Here are profiles of four graduates, with brief observations on how they benefited from their participation in the EPSE/LAMP executive management programs:


EPSE:

Kenneth Miller

  • Employer: CCAD (Combined Conditional Access Development), San Diego

  • Product: Conditional access systems for cable companies

  • Role: Senior director of systems engineering, test, and licensing

  • Education: BSEE, University of North Dakota; MSEE, University of North Dakota

  • Role: Director of sales and business development

  • Education: BA, Economics, San Diego State University

LAMP:

  • Product: Nationwide insurance products and services

  • Role: Information system project manager

  • Education: BS, University of Rajasthan (India); Master’s, University of Jai Narayan Vyas (India)

  • Role: Manager of test & certification organization

  • Education: BE, University of Mumbai (India); Master’s in mechanical engineering, Florida Institute of Technology

    Quote: “We learned all the basics about management such as organizational management, finances, marketing, dealing with different types of personalities, etc. With the help of 36o Survey and Emotional Intelligence we learned a lot about ourselves, which was very important.
