Students who participate in the “Our Energy Future” course with Coursera will have the opportunity to earn continuing education credit and apply it toward one of two UC San Diego Extension certificate programs: Biofuels Processes and Biofuels Science.

The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is designed to introduce students to the issues of energy in the 21st century – including food and fuels, which are inextricably linked – and will discuss energy production and utilization from the biology, engineering, economics, climate science, and social science perspectives.

The presentations will also delve into the latest academic research and industrial developments in renewable energy technologies.

No prior coursework in the subject is required. It is highly recommended that enrollees have a working knowledge of high school-level math,  college-level introductory biology, and chemistry.
