UC San Diego and the local ecosystem: Insights from wireless and biotech

UC San Diego has played a central role in the development of the San Diego high-technology economy in both the wireless and biotechnology industries.

Please join UC San Diego Extension, CONNECT, UC San Diego Library and IR/PS for “UC San Diego and the Local Ecosystem: Insights from Wireless and Biotech,” in the UC San Diego Library Seuss Room on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 3:30 – 5:00PM. This lecture is free and open to the public.

Featured speakers include Professor Martin Kenney, Dean Mary Walshok and Professor Steven Casper. They will examine the early history of biotechnology in the San Francisco and San Diego regions, as well as the symbiotic relationships that evolved between UC San Diego and the local wireless industry.

Martin Kenney, professor at UC Davis and co-editor of the forthcoming Stanford University Press book "Public Universities and Regional Growth: Insights from the University of California," will give a short presentation before introducing Dean Mary Walshok (UCSD) and Professor Steven Casper (Keck Graduate Institute). The joint lecture will feature results from their chapters on UC San Diego.
