'Nature' cites UC San Diego for frequent output in science journals

beaker-(1).jpgUC San Diego has been ranked sixth in the nation — and second among all U.S. public institutions — for total research output.

The new index by the prestigious journal Nature measures research productivity in the world’s top science journals — a total of 68 publications chosen by scientists as “where they would want to publish their most significant research.”

The ranking is based on the number of times an institution’s authors appear in those elite journals, with fractional adjustments for co-authorship. The ranking includes non-academic institutions.

UC San Diego also ranked sixth among institutions in North America, and 13th in the world.
