May 3. Adam Wolff Jazz Trio and the SD Jazz Scene
Adam Wolff, an extraordinary local jazz pianist,
along with his trio (piano, upright bass, drums) will
give us a jazz concert incorporating a wide range of
styles, focusing mainly on the 50’s and 60’s, Adam’s
preferred musical terrain. He will also identify five or
six iconic jazz compositions with an exploratory and
informative discussion along with their performance.
Adam has said that ‘Maple Leaf Rag,’ written by
Scott Joplin, and ‘So What’ composed by Miles Davis
are the two watershed compositions that have most
influenced Adam and The Adam Wolff Jazz Trio.
May 31. Ronnie Stewart and the Tony Ortega Tribute
Jazz Band
Ronnie Stewart is one of San Diego’s premier jazz
drummers. His groups have opened for Les McCann,
George Benson and toured with many jazz dignitaries
around the world. In addition to himself, his group is
composed of Bud Shryock jazz guitar, Todd Bryson
vibraphonist and composer, and Caleb Furgath bass.
Together they bring a combination of jazz elements
together as well as a driving intensity, elegant soulful
rhythms and swing, an overall sense of possibilities,
and as Ronnie himself said “positiveness.”
