Relax and Explore Art Through the Ages
Feeling the effects of too much schoolwork or screen time? Join us to relax and unwind by exploring the history of art and creating your own art projects using a variety of materials.
We will take a look at the roles that art has played throughout history. We will also discuss the purposes of art in the modern world, including relaxation, personal expression and communication. Then students will learn techniques and develop skills needed for various art projects. They will take on independent projects using paper and mixed media. The class will allow students to develop fine tactile skills and to discover leisure activities that can help them reduce stress for years to come.

Stone, Ellen
Ellen Stone earned an undergraduate degree in human services from Springfield College and a master’s degree in nonprofit leadership and management from the University of San Diego. Early in her career, she cofounded the peer-run nonprofit Impact Young Adults (IYA), where she codeveloped and led leadership development trainings, social events and public speaking training programs for young adults with mental health challenges. Ellen’s work was recognized by local and statewide mental health advocacy organizations. She served on the Board of Directors of the International Bipolar Foundation and cochaired the San Diego Behavioral Health Work Team. Instructor will contact students 24-hours in advance of class with Zoom information.
Students have the option of logging on to Zoom from 9-9:30am to have office hours with the instructor.
In addition, students have the option of staying on Zoom after class ends from 11am-12pm for additional support.
