Wildfires pose many dangers. One of those dangers is the inhalation of airborne contaminants (wildfire smoke). This class is designed to provide employers and employees with information on this hazard and how to reduce exposure to wildfire smoke. The new California Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (Cal/OSHA) regulations on this topic will also be described.
Note: this class is not for employees who fight wildfires or who are in the vicinity of active fires; instead it is for employees who may have to work in an area where wildfire smoke is present.
By the end of this class, students will understand:
• What wildfire smoke is and how it can affect human health
• How wildfire smoke is measured
• The different ways to control employee exposure to wildfire smoke
• The current Cal/OSHA requirements for protecting workers from this exposure
