Course Description:

This program gives you a unique opportunity to work directly in a personal coaching program with one of the country’s top MCAT specialists and author of a major MCAT book. The program provides up to 30 hours of one-on-one coaching over the course of a year. The instructor works directly with each student by phone and video conferencing to provide assignments and progress reviews. Students will learn advanced timing strategies to maximize their score, along with powerful problem-solving strategies for the CARS (Critical Analysis and Reasoning) and science sections of the test. The program covers MCAT strategy but does not include coaching on science review. Enrollment includes registration in STEPS, an online system that puts students in touch with potential study partners.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will learn how to avoid the strategy errors that account for 75% of MCAT wrong answers and how to gain significant extra points through logical and scientific problem solving.

  • Students will learn personalized, advanced strategies through up to 30 hours of phone or video coaching in weekly sessions that include a specific study plan, review of assignments, and analysis of timing and testing strategies. Coaching does not include science instruction.

  • Students will learn how to maximize their use of time on the test, how to overcome test anxiety and poor performance on standardized tests, and how to avoid the most common timing pitfalls.

  • Students will learn how to skim CARS passages for structure and will master tools for distinguishing between two very close answer choices.

  • Students will learn how to set up passages efficiently on the science sections and how to skim for the essential elements of a passage. They will learn how to gain points through testing strategies such as process of elimination and estimation.

  • Students will also learn how to read graphs and charts effectively and how to use logic to get correct answers. They will practice using a range of scientific problem-solving tools as well as tools for working two answer choices against each other to find the correct answer.

Note: The 30-hours of coaching should be completed within the quarter in which you register. If these hours are not completed during this time, attempts for make-up sessions will be made, but cannot be guaranteed.
