Explore the interplay between music and earthquakes. Is a Taylor Swift song similar to the ping-ping-ping of an earthquake aftershock sequence? Are One Direction songs akin to earthquake tremors in terms of the tempo and dynamic range? Work in groups to compose a musical representation of a seismogram (a data recording of an earthquake) using musical instruments of your choice—anything from a tuba to a pot drum with a spoon mallet. This is an introductory class. No prior musical experience is required.
