Retirement and employee-benefits law changed dramatically with the 1974 passage of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). Told through the stories of some activists and legislators involved, this lecture will discuss how the law came to be, what employee problems it solved, its pros and cons, and later changes that were enacted after ERISA became law.
Presenter Biography
Cynthia Van Bogaert is a retired employee-benefits attorney. She earned a B.S. in mathematics and J.D. at University of WisconsinMadison. A prolific speaker and writer involved in many professional groups, she was named a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, an organization that recognizes significant contributions to the employee-benefits field.
