University Credit Programs
Would you like to study alongside University of California, San Diego bachelor’s and master’s students and take credit-bearing courses at UC San Diego or UC San Diego Extension? If you are an excellent student with very strong English language skills, our university credit programs may be a good study abroad option for you. Universities in many countries count UC San Diego and UC San Diego Extension credits towards their own degree programs. Course transferability is at the discretion of the home university.
Want to spend 3, 6, or 9 months studying abroad? University and Professional Studies (UPS) welcomes high achieving, non-matriculated international students to attend a full-time credit-bearing program of UC San Diego or UC San Diego Extension courses within almost all departments at UC San Diego. Customize your own schedule of classes from the thousands of classes offered each quarter. Note: UC San Diego operates on a quarter system, with three academic quarters and two summer sessions per year. UC San Diego courses are not available through this program during the summer. Instead, students can enroll in university classes through UC San Diego Summer Session.
Spend 9 weeks in beautiful San Diego! The International Summer Session combines 4 weeks of university preparation classes with another 5 weeks of university courses at UC San Diego. During the first 4 weeks, you will have a rigorous schedule of classes at the UC San Diego English Language Institute, covering the following subjects:
- Analytical Reading and Critical Response
- Discussion and Fluency for University Success
- University Lecture and Note-Taking Skills
- Public Speaking
In the final 5 weeks, you will take two UC San Diego classes (8 units), available in nearly all UC San Diego academic departments. Each UC San Diego course is the full curriculum that is normally offered in a 10-week quarter, so two classes in 5 weeks is a full-time study load.
In summer, UC San Diego is the place to be! Experience UC San Diego’s beautiful beach-front campus, while studying with American students and under distinguished UC San Diego faculty.
